Often times, there is a disconnect between a Christians faith, and their relationship with the bible, their church, or even other Christians. These disconnects should be of concern for the professing Christian not being concerned, but it is not unusual for the very opposite to be the case. Instead of a strong desire to have a vital relationship, they are content with simply “being saved”. There many reasons for this disconnect, and one of them is that they do not feel the power of God in their lives, and eventually God has no real impact on their lives. It would do them good to read about and practice what a biblical Christian should be.
James 1:19-25 (NIV)
My dear brothers, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, for man’s anger does not bring about the righteous life that God desires. Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you. Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.
Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. But the man who looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues to do this, not forgetting what he has heard, but doing it–he will be blessed in what he does.
Faith, hope, and love can only happen, when a person puts them selves in a situation arises that actually lets them do what they have read or heard. You do not need to have faith until you have to rely on God. You don’t have to hope for anything that you can provide for yourself. You can’t love unless you truly desire it. Love is a scary thing, because it often requires you to forgive someone else.
Failure to these, refuses the power of God, and indicates a self-deception, and dis-content is the obvious symptom. If you want to feel God’s presence in your life, and bring hunger for His Word and people, start doing what He tells you to do. Then you will feel God’s power.
